Dimitrios Pikios is the Project Coordinator of ESCO, the multilingual European classification of Skills/Competences, Qualifications and Occupations, in the Directorate General for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion of the European Commission. Dimitrios has followed studies in economics and business administration. He joined the Commission in 2008 and worked in the Directorate General for Competition in the area of State aid before joining the ESCO project. Prior to that, Dimitrios worked as a credit risk analyst in corporate banking.

The European Commission is the EU's executive arm. It takes decisions on the Union's political and strategic direction. In the field of employment and social policy the Commission supports and complements national policies. One major activity in this field is to support skills policies: people need to be equipped with a variety of skills ranging from basic skills, such as literacy, numeracy and digital, to vocational or technical skills as well as entrepreneurial skills and transversal skills. The right skills help individuals to adjust to a changing labour market and society in times of technological developments, global and demographic challenges.
